A film trilogy framing the history of one of the world's greatest tapestry cycles and the intersection between art and warfare

On Saturday October 19th at the de Young in San Francisco marks the opening of an unprecedented exhibition of The Battle of Pavia Tapestries—the first time on view before the American public. Modio Media was commissioned to create a trilogy of short films delving into the history of this remarkable tapestry cycle depicting the eponymous 1525 battle that shaped the course of European history.

The exhibition is organized by the Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte in Naples (the Tapestries are part of its permanent collection), and The Museum Box in collaboration with the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, the Kimbell Art Museum, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Modio Media's incredibly honored to have worked with a world-class team on two continents during the making of these films.

The first in a trilogy of short films created for the 2024/2025 U.S. Touring Exhibition, The Battle of Pavia: The Beginning of Modern Europe, traces the remarkable battle's history and its impact on ruling powers of the day and how the art of warfare evolved through the centuries.

The second in a trilogy of short films created for the 2024/2025 U.S. Touring Exhibition, Battle of Pavia Tapestries: A Masterpiece of Messaging looks at tapestry production in Brussels in the early 16th century and features a segment with Campbell on how to interpret a tapestry.

The third and final film in a trilogy of short films created for the 2024/2025 U.S. touring exhibition, Armor, Dress & Heroes spotlights selected armor and how costumery and historical figures are represented in the Brussels-made tapestries.
